Power above the noise floor:

Hydrogen clouds in the beam FROM THE SPECTRUM

The Milky Way's hydrogen sits in separate clouds and spiral arms, each moving at its own speed. Moving gas shifts the 1420 MHz line slightly up or down (the Doppler effect), so each bump in the spectrum is one cloud, and its position tells you how fast it's moving toward or away from us. The page separates the bumps by fitting a smooth curve to each.

Historical peak power

Heat maps

Tsys, 30 days

Median system temperature each day. Drift means the receiver's gain is changing.

Nightly peak, 30 days

The day's highest peak, with the median line.

Sky coverage

Where the beam has recorded, in galactic coordinates. Brighter is more time.
